Questions

Short answers. If yours is not here, send a message.

Can I keep it without a car?

Yes. A certificate lets you hold the registration without a vehicle. You can assign it later, before the certificate expires. The expiry date is on each plate page.

What is a V750?

A V750 is a Certificate of Entitlement. It is used when the registration is not currently on a vehicle. A V778 is a Retention Document, used when a number has been taken off a vehicle and is being held.

Does the certificate expire?

Yes. Each plate page shows the expiry date. The holder needs to assign the number, or renew the certificate, before that date. Renewal is arranged with DVLA by the certificate holder.

Can I put it on any car?

Only within the age rule. Each plate page states the earliest date a vehicle can have been first registered. A dateless plate can go on any vehicle. A registration cannot make a vehicle appear newer than it is.

Can I see the certificate?

Yes. Ask me and I will show you the certificate before you pay. I may cover personal details that are not needed for the sale.

How do I pay safely?

We agree the price in writing first. You then pay by bank transfer. There is no card checkout on this website. I will not ask you to pay a stranger. The DVLA transfer fee of £80 is not included. You pay it when the number is assigned to a vehicle.

Can I make an offer?

Yes. Open the plate and choose Make an offer. If your figure is below the guide, you can still send it. I will say yes or suggest another price.

The rules sit with the government, not with me. Start with personalised vehicle registration numbers on GOV.UK, then how to keep or assign a private number.
